What is an immigration assessment?
Individuals
undergoing
Immigration
and
Refugee
Board
reviews
to
determine
their
eligibility
to
remain
in
Canada
often
require
comprehensive
psychological
assessments.
These
assessments
typically
evaluate
various
areas,
including
pre-
and
post-immigration
experiences
(e.g.,
war,
trauma,
harassment),
the
presence
of
psychological
symptoms
and
disorders
(e.g.,
depression,
anxiety,
PTSD),
and
the
potential
psychological
impact
of
being
denied
residency
in
Canada.
These
assessments
are
highly
detailed
and
incorporate
measures
for
psychological and personal functioning.
The
purpose
of
an
immigration
assessment
is
to
help
determine
whether
you
can
lawfully
stay
in
the
country
to
which
you
immigrated.
Particularly
concerning
submissions
for
refugee
or
humanitarian
and
compassionate
grounds
(H&C),
these
assessments
establish
links
between
psychological
symptoms,
social
experiences,
and
potential
immigration
outcomes.
An
Immigration
Assessment
will
yield
a
formal
psychological
report
that
presents
results
and
recommendations
tailored
to
the
specific
requirements
of
the Immigration and Refugee Board.
What can you expect at the immigration assessment?

immigration
assessment
most
often
consists
of
the
following:

interview
to

further
understand
your
mental
health,
we
may
request

•
you
may
be
asked

reference
from
