The
Interim
Federal
Health
Program
(IFHP)
is
a
Canadian
program
designed
to
offer
temporary
health
coverage
to
specific
groups,
who
are
not
eligible
for
provincial or territorial health insurance:
•
resettled refugees,
•
protected persons in Canada,
•
refugee claimants,
•
victims of human trafficking,
•
victims of domestic violence,
•
and detainees.
Psychological
services
within
the
IFHP
are
tailored
to
address
the
mental
health
needs
of
these
vulnerable
populations.
The
challenges
faced
by
refugees
and
displaced
individuals
often
include
trauma,
stress,
anxiety,
depression,
and
other
psychological
difficulties
resulting
from
their
migration
experiences
and
the
uncertainties associated with seeking refuge in a new country.
The psychology services accessible under IFHP may include:
•
Therapy:
Individuals
may
have
access
to
individual
or
group
therapy
sessions
to
address
mental
health
issues,
emotional
challenges,
and
psychological
concerns.
•
Counseling:
Counseling services are provided to help individuals cope with various life stressors, personal difficulties, and emotional struggles.
•
T
rauma Support:
IFHP may offer counseling and therapy for individuals who have experienced traumatic events or are dealing with post-traumatic stress.
•
Assessments:
Psychological assessments may be available to diagnose and understand mental health conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans.
•
Crisis Intervention:
In case of urgent mental health crises, access to crisis intervention services may be provided.
•
Support Groups:
IFHP may facilitate support groups where individuals can connect with others facing similar challenges and receive emotional support.
It's
important
to
note
that
the
specific
coverage
and
availability
of
these
psychology
services
may
vary
based
on
the
individual's
immigration
status
and
the
province
or
territory
in
which
they
reside.
Eligible
individuals
are
encouraged
to
check
with
the
IFHP
administrators
or
service
providers
to
determine
the
exact scope of mental health services available to them.
